1st Benoni is a mixed troop with both boys and girls, as we are the only Sea Scout troop in    Benoni we decided to open our doors to those girls who also enjoy everything that goes with being a Sea Scout or Sea Cub.

We have several sailing boats ranging in class from mirrors and dabchicks to a gypsy and lasers.

We also have several kayaks like 2 man and 1 man white water boats.

And we have the most necessary boat for any Sea Scout troop, a Gig, (which is a 6 man ‘pulling’ boat.)

Our Hall is situated on Homestead dam in Benoni, but we share the property with the 9th Benoni Scouts, as there hall is also on the property.

We have our Share of Springbok scouts and Leaping wolf cubs.

Meetings:  The normal Scout meetings are on a Friday Evening from 19:00 – 21:00

The normal Cub meetings are on a Friday afternoon from 15:30 – 17:00

Text Box: The Endeavour
Our gig. A gig is a boat used by the scouts, but it is designed as a rescue craft, which is why it is used at kontiki as a patrol and rescue vessel. When we have the flat water oars charge course, we train the students to take command of this vessel, and how to deal with an emergency, using the gig to its full potential.
